Chief Letep Dabang, the Chairman of All Progressives Congress in Plateau, said that last Saturday’s ward congresses in the state were hitch-free because the party adopted consensus candidates.
Dabang said this on Tuesday in Jos during an interaction with some newsmen.
The state APC chairman said that the party had two options of electing its party officials – elections or consensus.
He said: “After APC National Executive Council meeting, we met with stakeholders, briefed them on what transpired.
“We were asked to retain the present zoning in order not to cause confusion looking at short time to primary elections.
“Consensus is in line with the constitution of the party and the wishes and aspiration of the party members.
“Governor Simon Lalong during the last stakeholders meeting called on all concerned to follow the party’s internal arrangement.”
Dabang commended party members in the state for their peaceful conduct.
He said that so far his office was not aware of any formal complaints nor petition against the outcome of the congress.
According to him, based on the security challenges in the state, it was a wise decision for the party to have agreed for consensus and not election.
Dabang, who is also a member of the National Advisory committee of the APC on Congress, said most of the states that had crisis was a result of not taking the option.
He denied some media reports that he had hijacked the party structure.
He described the media reports as unfounded, describing the APC as a party committed to transparency.
