News available to ViewPointNigeria indicates that residents of Plateau State have been rushing to nearby states, especially Bauchi to renew their vehicle documents despite a multimillion naira smart revenue system unveiled by the Plateau State Government to generate revenue in March.
Newsmen gathered that the technology which was deployed by the State’s Internal Revenue Service to serve as a central revenue collection system, under a consulting firm, Barnskforte Ltd has been operating fine but is recently suffering network challenges.
Our correspondents who visited the state’s board of internal revenue service report that the process of vehicle license has become cumbersome with customers waiting for hours to print online receipts.
Staff of the board told our correspondents that the hitches were only recent and mainly related to network issues. Ibrahim Aliyu, who was on the queue said his relative had travelled to Bauchi to get his documents while he has been trying to renew his car papers since Monday morning. According to him, “we waited for over three hours on Monday before we left because there was no network. By Tuesday, they had posted our transaction but when we went to the bank to pay, there was equally no network. As at yesterday, we had paid in the bank but there is no network at the revenue board to generate our receipts.”
When contacted, the Chairman, Plateau State Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS), Dashe Arlat told newsmen that his attention has been drawn to the network challenges especially regarding vehicle license but said the challenges were global.
Arlat said he was aware that some customers have been trooping into Bauchi state for their vehicle papers but warned that, “the process in Bauchi is not automated so we hope they don’t get fake receipts. The network issues are all over. It is the same at the banks or when you use ATM cards for transactions but we are working concertedly to ensure that we resolve them.”
