At 5pm, the reports reaching our desks suggests that the polls have been largely completed except for a few local governments where voters accreditation started very late and as such voting was still in progress -albeit to be finalised shortly. ViewPointNigeria’s correspondents in a variety of areas observed that the polls were marred by very low voter turn-out as most people stayed in, not bothering to go out to the polling units.
That said, the elections were said to have been relatively peaceful in most quarters, with a few challenges which were largely contained before they escalated out of control. So far, the result of most of the polling units are being collated, but as expected all parties are already claiming victory and making celebratory remarks.

However, early this evening there were reports that some youth (alleged to be from the dorminant party) were said to have turned up to a polling unit in Mabudi, Langtang South with thumb printed ballot papers. These youth were said to have been acosted, and therefore did not influence the results of the polls, but it remains unclear whether they were handed over to the authorities or not.
The same situation was reported in parts of Bassa Local Government, where it is alleged that certain youths tried to forcefully upturn the entire polling unit by subsituting the ballot box with an already filled one.
