Fresh hostilities were recorded on Thursday in Plateau state, resulting to the death of no fewer than a dozen people and tensions that nearly marred the Eid El Maulud celebration.

This time however, the conflict was not between Fulani nomads and Berom natives as has been the case in the recent past, but between Fulanis and the Taroh community in Wadata, a rural settlement in Wase Local Government of the Southern senatorial district.

A source from the community confirmed that the hostilities started when the decomposing corpse of a young man, who had earlier been declared missing was discovered. The discovery led to several reprisals and counter-reprisals during which several houses were touched and many people were said to have been killed in the fracas.

Plateau state has been the epicentre of several religious and ethnic clashes in the recent past, where gunmen and marauders have inflicted pain and havoc on the native communities.
