University of Jos:  DG NAFDAC Advocates for National Drugs security  …

 

As Nigeria thrives to attain the universal health coverage, the place of drugs and drugs production is at the centre of its attainment. The Director General of NAFDAC Professor Mojisola Adeyeye in a public lecture at the maltipupose Hall, University Of Jos ,titled “Drugs Security And National Development Prospects and Challenges” ,  the DG identified the problems of drugs security to include : quality, safe, certified producers of drugs and also the Acessability of psycho active Drugs like codain,tramadol and its likes.as some challenges among many.
The DG explains that most of the imported drugs are fake and substandard hence the need to sustain production locally , linking the use of drugs to the high rate of terrorism especially the BOKO-HARAM sect in the sambisa forest

“ NAFDAC have gone to the source i.e South East Asia, the main producers of the Pyscho active Drugs… to tackle the problem from the source.”.

Furthermore, the DG explains that NAFDAC is reviewing its five years Plan to enhance local Production. The DG suggest that the efforts is a multifactorial.


To this end, the DG challenge the University of Jos through a quality reseach to that regards “because NAFDAC would prther with academia towards quality research “ and local manufacturers are called upon to be creative in taking charge of the production as NAFDAC cuts down importation of drugs in view of the security thread it posses.
While appreciating the Guest lecturer, the Vice Chancellor, professor Sabastine Maimako dèeply appreciates the DG for her time and intellect in the presentation.
