UNIJOS SUG Elections : NANS frowns at attempt to undermine students unions ,challenge students to be more proactive in defence of the union.
The coordinator National Association of Nigerian students NANS zone c- Comrade Nankin Daform has expressed serious concern over the just concluded students union government elections held in the ivory tower of UNIJOS.
Comrade Nankin Daform who was in company of the Joint campus committee Chairman of NANS plateau state, comrade Charles Danieng among other SUG presidents and senior comrades to observe the elections, wonder why the students affairs would impose staff to conduct the students union elections
Other observations raised by comrade Nankin led observance team include : 1. The use of armed security in a campus elections, to which the observers noted as being against the tradition of campus elections. 2. The observers further note that students of UNIJOS must be given their union back , he calls on students to stand in defence of the constitution and age long heritage of the union which is a promoter in the advancement of democracy in Nigeria. The coordinator concludes that “ we fault the leadership of the union for not standing for the integrity of the union.”
Some students observe that the use receipt of school fee SUG receipt and school ID card simultaneously as a criteria for voting disenfranchise many especially many those yet to be issued school ID.
Viewpointnigeria couldn’t make contact with the students affairs to comment on the elections and the issues raised but learnt that the subsequent morning of Friday 20 July, 2018. the Deputy Dean of students affairs Dr. Philibus Dami declared Pangtu Fwanshak silas of the psychology department winner closely followed by Mitong Dapa (law faculty) and Badir Godwin ( law ).
the swearing-in of the new exco will be announced Soon but the students are set to commence exams on Monday.
