The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has entered an agreement with the Kasetsart University of Thailand, on domestication of Thailand-grown rice in Nigeria. This it aims will help in addressing the problem of security.
University of Jos had acquired 1,000 hectares of land for the project and seeking to take up the venture with the new faculty of Agriculture working with professors of horticulture from the university in Thailand.

Professor Hayward Mafuyai who is the Vice Chancellor of University of Jos stated the two universities will share expertise to enable the students of the new faculty of Agriculture and farmers benefit from the partnership. He said it was vital since Nigeria consume a lot of rice.
The Vice Chancellor added that the partnership will afford students and researchers the opportunity to go on exchange programmes. He said that farmer’s yields will be improved thereby providing employment.
The deputy head of mission of the Royal Thai Embassy in Nigeria, Sakeson Sarobol who was accompanied by professors of Horticultural Science from Kasetsart University said the partnership will be via the Thailand-Africa Policy.
He added that Thailand is well known for agriculture and so the partnership will afford both countries the opportunity to explore potentials.
