The University of Jos started as a Campus of the University of Ibadan in November 1971, with several Vice-Chancellors in succession.
Prof. Seddi Sebastian Maimako assumed office as the 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jos on the 23rd of July,2016 exactly four years now, the journey many tagged as the era of “performance, prosperity and Happiness “
Like yesterday, Prof. Seddi Maimako is counting the gains and achievements recorded under his watch, many projects were hand-over to the University Administration on Thursday 25th of June, 2020.
The projects included, construction and furnishing of the faculty of management sciences, faculty of engineering, faculty of social sciences including 1000 capacity lecture hall through the intervention of TETfund among other major works that cater for the infrastructure deficit of the university.
In a press conference held on Friday the 26th of June, 2020. The Vice-Chancellor gives details of the gains so far to include accreditation of about 94.6 per cent of programmes run in the university, cutting edge research and massive infrastructure
As it stands presently, therefore, 43 out of 73 programmes run by the university including special education options enjoy full accreditation status while 28 programmes have interim accreditation status… consequently, you may wish to note that 94.6 per cent of the programmes run by the university have been properly accredited with no denied accreditation status so far recorded the VC noted.
On admissions, the Vice-Chancellor says that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) rated the university of Jos as the 7th most subscribed University in Nigeria with 46,082 candidates applying for admission in the 2018 exercise.
From the available data, JAMB ranked the University of Jos as the fourth (4th ) best among Nigerian tertiary institutions that admitted candidates from 37 states and the FCT following the 2018 exercise
At the last convocation lecture of the University of Jos, the popular professor of Law professor Dakas C.J Dakas describe the Vice-chancellor as “Mai-taimako” (the helper) other names of this workaholic Vice-Chancellor is professor of “infrastructure and Happiness ” mostly among the staff of the University of Jos.
