Jos—TWO women have been raped to death in Plateau State, even as the state’s chapter of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, has appealed to the state government to address the increase in rape cases.
NAWOJ, in a statement issued yesterday in Jos by its Chairman, Mrs. Jennifer Yarima, condemned the act, noting “NAWOJ in Plateau State is appealing to the state government to take urgent measures towards curbing the menace of increasing wave of rape and other violent conducts against vulnerable women in the state through the legislation of strong laws to deal with perpetrators.
“NAWOJ also condemns the alleged rape and indecent assault of a nursing mother (name withheld), attacked by a herdsman and his younger brother, while the victim was returning from her farm at Diyen, Rim District of Riyom Local Government Area.
“Two other women within the same community were raped to death and their bodies dumped in the open. These acts have continued unabated not only in Riyom, but also in other parts of the state.
‘’NAWOJ is calling on survivors of any form of violence to speak out to forestall future occurrence and let the law take its course.”
It would be recalled that the state’s Police Command had, last week, raised a similar alarm and called on mothers to monitor their children and wards to avoid their being victims of rape.
