Tributes have continued to flow, following the unfortunate passing of legendary educationist, administrator, father and mentor, Mr. S S Dangfa.
Late Dangfa passed-on on Friday 4th November 2016, after a long drawn illness in Jos, Plateau state. He is survived by his lovely family, comprising his wife, children and numerous grand children.
Through his life, Dangfa enjoyed a stellar educational career, commencing in the 1940s in Sabon Gida, Langtang South LGA, before proceeding to Government Science School, Kuru (graduating in 1964).
He then held numerous administrative positions, including being principal of Government Science School, Kuru (from 1994 – 2001), rising to the lofty position of commissioner of education in Plateau state (2001 – 2003) and then becoming registrar of the Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi.
S S Dangfa was a larger-than-life figure for all students during his 7 years at Government Science School Kuru, advising, encouraging and reminding students of the incredibly high standards to which they were being held. He expected excellence and greatness; he demanded independence, creativity, critical thinking and ingenuity. Above all, he wanted every student to excel in any chosen endeavour. He put his heart, soul and mind in training his students – famously teaching mathematics and further mathematics, even though he didn’t have to. Such was the commitment of the man, who took teaching/tuition as a personal endeavour and not simply an administrative task. As such, he came to be known for saying “Ko baban ka wanene” – a hallmark of his being principled and un-bendable. Dangfa leaves an indelible mark in the lives of many of his ex-students. His legacy lives on.
A selection of some of the tributes by his students include:
(1) Daddy, you were an incredible educator, an honourable mentor and a friend that only comes once in a lifetime. Thank you for the memories which will never fade away. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. May God rest your soul. (Gwangtim Poyi – KOSA 97)
