During a fact finding mission to the Lagos State Transport Ministry and Lagos Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) Headquarters in Oshodi, the Plateau State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon Ghamzaki Abdul-Hamid, who led the state delegation, said the state is looking beyond politics and was seeking real measures to emulate the giant strides recorded by the Lagos State government in transportation policy implementation and management. Specifically, he relayed the advanced transport management strategies deployed by the state as worthy of emulation.
Speaking at the visit, the commisioner stated that the Plateau State government was interested in efficient management and performance which have been demonstrated by Lagos State transportation agencies. Saying that with the traffic congestion problems already plaguing Jos, the people of Plateau were ready to adopt the unique strategy of the Lagos transportation sector, which are already being deployed in other states in the South west.
“Our visit to the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and relevant agencies is as result of the newly-created Ministry of Transport in Plateau State. We are on the fact-finding mission on the template of the Lagos transportation sector which is worthy of emulation. Lagos State government is the only state government that has really performed in term transportation and policy implementation.
“Lagos is worthy of emulation nationwide, their initiatives ought to be extended to all the states of the federation. In term of performance, we keep party differences aside. Our visit is informed by the focus of our governor which is to develop the state’s transportation sector. So, without minding politics, we are after performance, we are here to learn from Lagos State. It is not party affairs but to understudy implementation,” he said.
Along with the commissioner, several other members of the ministry were on the delegation.
