News at ViewPointNigeria’s desk indicates that traders of the Chobe food market in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State have protested the alleged vandalism of their shops by agents of the state government.

The market which is predominately dominated by Igbos was created after the Jos crisis, when traders from Kwararafa and Dilimi markets migrated to Chobe.

In a protest letter to the state Governor, Mr. Simon Lalong, the traders through their Chairman, Sunday Okpe, said that sometime in 2016, they were informed that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry had instructed that they should stop trading at the market.

He added that they confronted the officials of the ministry to know why they were asked to stop carrying out their businesses in the neighborhood market, and were informed that government frowned on trading into the streets.

The traders complained that some of their shops and goods have been looted by government officials.
