Plateau State Commissioner of Police CP Edward C. Egbuka have played host to The Northern Peace Foundation at the Command’s Headquarters in Jos.
The Commissioner who was ably represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police department of operations DCP Sale H. Tafida on Tuesday welcomed The Northern Peace Foundation to the command.
Also on hand to receive the delegation of the Northern Peace Foundation is the Deputy Commissioner of Police State Investigation Department, DCP Mohammed, Assistant Commissioner of Police department of operations, ACP Ishak Inusa, and OC State Intelligent Bareau CSP Timbomna as well as the State PPRO Mr. Ubah Gabriel Ogaba.
Speaking during the course of the courtesy visit, the Executive Director of the Foundation, Amb. Tony Horsfall, said the visit was to familiarize and identify with the Police Commissioner CP. Edward C. Ebuka who was recently posted to Plateau State.
Amb. Horsfall Tony said it had became imperative to identify with the Police Commissioner and the entire Police Command because the Foundation in furtherance of its mandate to entrench peace, security and stability across Northern Nigeria and by extension the entire Country, The Foundation therefore finds the police and other security outfits as worthy partners in advancement of such mandate.
He also added that the foundation supports peace advocacy and collaborative partnerships for peace and security consolidation through the software component of peace and security building.
He further stated that the Northern Peace Foundation wish to also commend the Police Commissioner CP. Edward C. Egbuka and the command for the Swift and proactive response in arresting the criminal elements responsible for the recent murder of the senior Lecturer of the University of Jos and the kidnappers of his daughter and urged the CP to continue with such incredible feat which will further reinforce citizens’ confidence in the Nigerian Police Force. To the effect, the CP was honored and decorated with the prestigious Sir Ahmadu Bello Sardauna Northern Peace Advancement Award.
In his response, the Commissioner of Police through DCP Tafida thanked the delegation for the recognition and said since the arrival of the new Police Commissioner, many organizations, friends and partners of the Police have visited to identify with the command.
He further stated that Plateau State has in the past suffered so many crisis ranging from tribal and communal clashes, but thank God that with the current government in the state, peace is gradually returning to the state, noting that when it comes to peace and security it has never been 100% success.
He also noted that crimes such as armed robbery have drastically reduce but the emerging crimes now is kidnapping, cultism and rape. He said that the coming of the Northern Peace Foundation is timely and assured the Foundation of collaborative partnership with the Force to help reduce crime in the state and Nigeria in general.
DCP. Tafida noted the need to collaborate as the Force has done with the neighborhood watch, Vigilante Group of Nigeria, (VGN) and other stakeholders to ensure effective community policing.
He appreciated the visit of the Northern Peace Foundation and called on them to continue to partner the Police to help fight and reduce crime in the State and Nation at large.
The Northern Peace Foundation, a Non Governmental Oganisation, is a think-tank and civic hub of peace practitioners and makers pressing to enthrench and advance peace and development in especially Northern Nigeria and Nigeria at large.
