Tarayar Ekklisiyoyin Kristi a Nigeria (TEKAN) comprises of 15 Churches in the 19 Northern states of Nigeria and the Federal capital Territory Abuja have resolved and do hereby state as follows: The ultimatum issued by some Northern Youths to Igbos to quit the Northern states is provocative, and a threat to national security capable of instigating crisis in the country especially now that Nigeria is experiencing relative Peace.

We condemn the action in it entirety. God created Nigeria and also created the Igbo’s, the country belongs to everybody. As such, every Nigerian has the right to leave in any part of Nigeria without any fear of intimidation or harassment to his life or property. The statement issued in Kaduna doesn’t reflect the opinions or views of Christians in Northern Nigeria and we stand against such evil plans and disassociate the church from their views.

We assure the Igbo’s that we love them because they are the creation of God and we strongly believe God has great plans for all Mankind. The future of Nigeria is as bright as the promise of God. We also condemn in strong terms some statements by some political elites and elder statesmen who have consequences of further heating the polity of the nation and we called on the Acting President of Nigeria Professor Yemi Osibanjo to immediately direct Security agencies to arrest all those trying to breach the Peace of Nigeria.

We commend the proactive response of all groups in Nigeria and the leadership of Northern Governors Forum under the leadership of Alh. Kashim Shettima, Governor of Borno State for condemning the so-called Kaduna Declaration.

We call on all Christians in Nigeria and Igbo’s to disregard the quick notice and unite in respective of our religion, tribes or regional divides and work together for the unity of Nigeria.

Signed: TEKAN General Secretary Rev. Moses J. Ebuga
