The governor Simon Lalong’s led All Progressives Congress (APC), on Saturday described former Governor of the state, Ambassador Fidelis Tapgun as the worst governor Plateau has ever produced.
This position was disclosed by the Special Adviser to Governor Lalong on Media and Publicity, Mr. Dan Manjang, while reacting to comments made by Ambassador Fidelis Tapgun where he averred that he regrets working with Lalong to clinch the 2015 gubernatorial seat.
Speaking, Manjang said, “We as a government are greatly shocked and taken aback by what an elder statesman like Ambassador Tapgun said yesterday at the PDP Secretariat in Jos.
We hold Ambassador Tapgun in very high esteem because of his position as an elder stateman, but the comments credited to him are truly unfortunate.
Just so you know we know the antecedents of each and every past governor and leader of Plateau state and Tapgun with all due respect is the worst governor that Plateau State has ever produced.
I challenge everyone to go and undertake their research about Tapgun’s antecedents on the Plateau and they will find that he left no legacies after office. All ex-governors have some sort of projects ascribed to them as their legacies, but as far as we know – none can be ascribed to Fidelis Tapgun. Now don’t forget, this is a man who has held several offices aside being Governor – for instance, he was both minister and ambassador to the Federation, yet no tangible projects can be ascribed to him as legacies.
Speaking further, Manjang said — our people do not have amnesia, they know that He (Tapgun) was one of the dissident fellows that orchestrated numerious crisis within the party (PDP), which he claims to be a leader of. For instance, prior to the 2015 elections when PDP was canvassing for votes, Tapgun shifted to the ‘Reformed PDP’, and he led others dissidents to place an advert in the dailies to create another faction within the PDP”. Based on these facts we can say confidently that he is more of a liability to the PDP than a wet blanket to be honest. “This is a man who sold the hard earned assets of Plateau state – BARC farms remains fresh in Plateau people’s memories. We are only incredibly grateful for Governor Lalong and his foresight in trying to buy back some of those assets sold by Tagun.
Manjang averred that if the achievements of all past governors of the state, right from the time of Late Solomon Lar are to be chronicled, Tapgun’s achievements would not even feature on the list.
The Governor’s aide maintained that he sees the opposition PDP in the state as “an assembly of strange bird fellows”.
“Just wait for 2019, you will see what will happen, I’m not being prophetic about it, but I talk from a place of deep information because I was part of these strange bed fellows in the past, but now I’m born again APC person.
“Governor Lalong whether they like it or not is the governor of Plateau State today, there is nothing they can do, but to wait for 2019. And God that brought him on the throne has not died,” he said.
It would be recalled that, Tapgun a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, had on Friday, while addressing party stakeholders at the party’s secretariat in Jos, asked the people of the State to forgive them for supporting Governor Lalong to win the 2015 general elections. Tapgun said, “I have been on sabbatical praying, fasting asking God to forgive us, all of us, for the injuries we’ve inflicted on the people of Plateau State.”
According to him, “This is the first time I’m appearing to speak publicly for over a year now; I have been on sabbatical, since we asked our people to vote for Lalong unnecessarily. I have been on sabbatical and it appears it has come to an end.
“All of us committed atrocities against the party and I think we have prayed enough and I believe that God has answered our prayers,” he explained.
