News reaching the ViewPointNigeria news desk indicates that former Governor of Plateau State, Ambassador Fidelis Tapgun, on Friday lambasted the Plateau PDP (PDP) for asserting that he is not a PDP member and describing him as a defector.

It would be recalled that the state PDP had, in a statement signed by its Secretary, Prince Pam Sale, warned Tapgun, Joshua Dariye, Pauline Tallen and J T Useni to stop parading themselves as members of the party, describing them as impostors/defectors.

The statement read “These are people who had left the party to other parties, contested against the PDP in the last elections and today wish to return through improper means to contest in our noble party -well, I can tell you that behaviour, is totally unacceptable”.

Sale went further to assert that these people cannot be termed party members, having deserted it. He maintained that they have been advised by the party to do the honourable thing by not getting involved in any party activities and delay their return until after the PDP primaries.

Rebuffing these assertions, Tapgun, who spoke to newsmen on the telephone posited that the stance being taken by the Plateau PDP was that of self deceit and agrandisement. Speaking further, he said -what the party needs to realise is that it is not operating independent of the National PDP secretariat which has already recognised himself and other members as bona fide party stalwarts.

His words: “The Plateau PDP should know that it is not operating in isolation of the national PDP. Since 2012, I have revalidated my membership of the party. If this is not so, the party would not have sold the nomination form for me to contest the governorship election.

It is a fact that the Plateau PDP remains enmeshed in deep secrecy about who would succeed Jang -with several clandestine meetings being held all over the state.

A major political development this week, which has brought a bit of clarity to the political scene, has been the establishment of the fact that Jang would be going to the Senate. This throws interesting dynamics in the Plateau polity because it essentially means that his protege, GNS Pwajok would have to give way to his boss -that said, it remains unclear in what capacity he (GNS) may be thrusted.

Several analysts have posited that due to immense pressure on Jang -he would have to field his deputy (Ignatius Longjan) as his trump-card, given the fact that other zones appear to be planning a gang-up, should a candidate from the Northern senatorial zone be imposed.
