Justice Chukwu Evoh adjourned the suit on Friday after counsel to Plateau State, Damian Dodo (SAN) applied to amend the original suit.

Justice Chukwu Evoh adjourned the suit on Friday after counsel to Plateau State, Damian Dodo (SAN) applied to amend the original suit.

In the amendment, Dodo proposed to narrow the suit, seeking an order compelling the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to use the list of registered voters in its database for the elections in the entire country, including Plateau State.

In his counter affidavit, defence counsel Akin Olujimi (SAN) urged the court to refuse the application for lack of merit.

The suit was originally and jointly filed by the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Titus Alams, the chairmen of the 17 local government areas in the state, the Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Traditional Rulers, Gbong Gwom Jos, Da Gyang Buba; and former Chief of Defence Staff, retired General Domkat Bali, who is the traditional ruler of the Tarok People in Langtang.

In the processes, Plateau State Government is seeking an order of mandatory injunction directing INEC to allow all eligible voters in the state whose names are on the Voters’ Register already compiled and maintained by the commission in Plateau to vote and be voted for in the 2015 elections.
