STF disrupts women peace rally in Wase, injuring six

The Special Task Force (STF) maintain peace in Plateau state has disrupted a peace rally by women in Wase Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau while injuring about six persons.

The rally was organised by Wase Women Development Association (WAWODA) to raise awareness on the level of insecurity in the LGA.

Interim Coordinator of WAWODA, Hajia Safiya Adamu stated that the procession was heading to the STF base before the soldiers descended on them and started whipping and molesting them despite their peaceful nature. This made the women to scamper for safety in all directions.

While condemning the action of the STF, she added that the STF sector commander who was notified before the rally had earlier assured them of their safety but they were surprised with the turn of events.

She said that the rally has been called off and that it is disheartening that the peace loving women of the LGA will be treated in such a way by the people who have been mandated to protect them. She added that five women and children were injured in the commotion that ensued.

The emir of Wase, Alhaji Mohammed Sambo had earlier in his palace while receiving the women called on Government at all levels to checkmate the attacks and counter attacks in and around the LGA.

Caretaker Chairman of the council, Alhaji Haruna Zakari blamed the conflict in the LGA on outsiders who are hell bent on causing division the area and called for actions by those In authority to end it.

It will be recalled that ViewPointNigeria, earlier reported of killings and destructions in some districts of Wase that was blamed on security operatives by survivors.
