STATE POLICE: A NECESSITY FOR THE SURVIVAL OF PLATEAU STATE AND NIGERIA.
At this challenging moment in Plateau State and Nigeria at large, the call for the creation of State Police is no longer merely important, it has become a necessity if we are to effectively confront the growing security challenges facing our communities.
A State Police system, if properly structured, regulated, and held accountable, could strengthen community-based security, improve intelligence gathering, enhance trust between citizens and security agencies, and enable FASTER responses to threats. When communities are empowered to play a greater role in protecting their people and environment, the impact can be significant. It is like empowering a son to protect his own mother, one can only imagine how effective such a bond of responsibility and familiarity could be.
Too many lives have been lost, communities destroyed, and ancestral homes deserted because of insecurity. These realities demand urgent and serious attention from our leaders.
I therefore call on our lawmakers at both the National and State Assemblies to give this matter the seriousness and urgency it deserves. The primary responsibility of any responsible government is the protection of the lives and property of its citizens.
It is commendable that the Governor of Plateau State his excellency Barr Caleb Mutfwang and other pressure groups like PYC have openly expressed their support for the creation of State Police at different fora. Our Lawmakers must equally demonstrate commitment by actively supporting and advancing this important national conversation, otherwise should not be re-elected and any lawmaker working against State police do not deserve our trust and vote come 2027.
The National assembly had transmitted the State police creation bill to all 36 state houses of assemblies on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Worthy of note is that at least 24 of the assemblies Must approve it for the constitutional process to proceed and bravo to Osun and Edo Houses of assemblies who have actually Approved the bill on the 22 and 23 of September respectively and more strength to Bauchi, Benue,Borno,Cross River,Gombe,Kano, Katsina, kogi,Nasarawa,Ogun, Sokoto and Zamfara who are currently processing the bill. Plateau state assembly have declared it’s support for the bill but it must go beyond mere talk to formal approval.
We must see Plateau state and Nigeria as our Common wealth and Asset to protect and keep in trust for the generation yet unborn.
God bless Plateau State. God bless Nigeria.
