Search for the body of the missing General (Major General Mohammed I. Alkali) said to have gone missing around Jos Plateau state has escalated to higher levels.
Yesterday Wednesday 19th September 2018, the Nigerian Military were said to have taken over areas around Dura-Du and a pond behind the Rayfield resort (around Kwang), with the view of continuing with the search operation.
Word has it that since morning today 20th September 2018, the military has been involved in an operation to drain the entire pond with the view of recovering the corpse.
It remains unclear whether this is based on intelligence or simply an act of due diligence, but at the time of filing this report, the draining operation was progressing steadily and nothing was yet recovered.
In protest to the military lock-down of the area, women dressed in black mobilised themselves and have been singing and protesting in the vicinity of the operations. Speaking, they confirmed that they were protesting the manner in which the soldiers mal-treated residents of the community yesterday and earlier in the week (saying that many were brutalized and that gunshots were released in the air) – with residents prevented from entering or leaving the community.
It would be recalled that the General was said to have gone missing approximately 2 weeks ago (on 3rd September) with his Toyota Corolla, which is also yet to be recovered. The General had just retired from the Nigerian Army, as the Chief of Administration of the Nigerian Army Headquarters.
