SENATOR GYANG CALLS ATTENTION OF SENATE TO ATTACKS AND KILLINGS AT KWI, DONG AND MIANGO.

Senator I.D. Gyang at the Senate Plenary of Wednesday 2/6/21, raised a Point of Order to bring to the attention of the Senate, sustained attacks and serial killings in his constituency, Plateau North Senatorial District.

Senator Gyang in his submission informed the Senate that Plateau State has been in the eye of the storm for long when reference is to be heard on the current spade of insecurity across the nation.

He said the killings and displacement of whole communities being perpetrated by insurgents and bandits and the insecurity ravaging the nation used to have Plateau State as its epicenter.

Senator Gyang stated that the attacks on Plateau State are programmed at displacing host communities to forcefully take over their ancestral homes for permanent occupation.
He further informed the Senate that in most of the annexed villages and communities, the demographics have been altered and the original names changed to erase and deface their aboriginal standing and ancestry.

The latest in this quest, Senator Gyang told the Senate was the attack in the preceding week on KWI village in Riyom LGA, DONG where Jos Wild Life Park is situated in Jos North LGA and MIANGO in Bassa LGA. In all, 20 persons were killed with many houses set ablaze.

Senator Gyang notified the Senate that the serial attacks on affected host communities are often preceded by ADVANCED NOTICES from the attackers as to the date and locations. These are known to Security agencies, but to the consternation of helpless victim communities, the attacks have remained unabated and culprits not apprehended to face justice.

The Senator stated that the existential threat to communities in Plateau North especially, Riyom, B/Ladi, Miango and now Dong is very grave. He called for reinforcement of Security to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of these killings whose identities and modus operandi is very well known to the Police, DSS and the Military under OPSH in Plateau State.

Another issue of concern whIch Senator Gyang drew attention of the Senate to, is the Federal government’s exclusion of Plateau State from its program of building 500 Housing Units for the resettlement of IDPs in affected displaced communities. While urging the Senate to prevail on the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to immediately commence building the 500 Housing Unit to resettle the displace communities in Plateau North, the President of the Senate interrupted by asking Senator Gyang to restrict his submission to the recent attacks.

Senator Gyang rounded up his Point of Order by calling on NEMA to provide and make available relief materials to victim communities to ameliorate their plight.

The Senate observed a one minute silence in honor of victims of the attacks.
