Senator Dadu’ut committed to improving the living standards of the elderly

Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial district on Tuesday ( 2nd March 2021 ) echoed the need for an improved standard of living for elderly persons.

The senator today at the plenary made her voice heard while seconding the motion for the adoption of the report of the committee on women affair on Older Persons (Rights and Privileges) Bill, 2021 (SB. 114) sponsored by Senator Betty Apiafi.

The proceedings for the day started at about 10:43am with the Senate President Senator Ahmed Lawan, CON, PhD taking the official prayers after leading principal officers into the senate chambers.

The day’s plenary witnessed the reading of an executive letter from the President of the Federation President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, on request for the confirmation of nominations for executive appointments, presentation of petitions, presentation of bills for first reading, presentation and consideration of reports.

While adding her voice by way of seconding the Older Persons (Rights and Privileges) Bill, 2021 (SB. 114) that seeks to ensure that older persons enjoy the right to adequate standard of living, including the right to food, water, clothing, and housing, and to improve their living conditions without discrimination on basis of age, Senator Nora Ladi Dadu’ut passionately stressed the importance of the bill.

She further added that the bill would ensure that elderly persons have adequate access to all the items the bill seeks to provide for Older Persons.

Plenary was further adjourned to Wednesday, 3rd March, 2021
