Plateau State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has stated that about 70,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) across the country are being accommodated in the state.

Speaking to reporters in Jos, Mr Biser Longnam who is SEMA’s Director of Administration said that the IDPs were from Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states that are ravaged by the boko haram menace.

He added that some were from neighbouring Nasarawa and Taraba states that were displaced as a result of communal and ethnic clashes.

Longnam said that most of the IDPs are taking refuge across the northern senatorial zone while the rest are in the southern zone of the state.

The Director of Administration called on philanthropists and organisations to aid in the support rendered to the IDPs as he said the burden was becoming large on the Government due to limited resources.

He thanked Rotary International for the support rendered to the IDPs recently and added that the State Ministry of Education was making arrangements to enrol children from the camps into schools.
