Saf Ron’s Assassination: Protesters tear-gassed and dispersed

The aftermath of the unfortunate assassination of the paramount ruler of Bokkos LGA, late his Majesty Baba Lazarus Agai has led to state of anarchy in Plateau state. Several protests were equally organised from Bokkos town to Jos city in a bid to register the displeasure of natives at the heinous acts.

The protests in Bokkos led to confrontation with security agents, leading to the shooting and killing of a few youths. This unfortunate loss of lives, further escalated the tension in the already charged atmosphere and heightened people’s distrust of security agents as many wondered why the natives are perpetually killed/disadvantaged while the perpetrators are allowed to carry-on with their heinous acts unchallenged. People cited the fresh attacks in Sha, Kwata and other villages in Bokkos (a day after the killing of the Saf Ron), as examples of situations where security agents are only interested in shackling the natives from reprisals and not preventing acts of terror by marauders.

In Jos, the protests organised on wednesday 21st July 2016, by a group of Plateau youths who congregated at Old Airport Junction, and marched through Zarmaganda to the old government house also ended in chaos. In that occasion, the protesters were said to have blocked both lanes of the access road into the Old Govt. House and rowdily engaged the security details at the gate. The charge situation unfortunately led to security agents dispersing them with tear gas and other anti-riot mechanisms. See pictures. The Plateau state government subsequently issued a communique banning all forms of Protests.Protesters Teargassed in Plateau Protesters Teargassed in Plateau2 Protesters Teargassed in Plateau3 Protesters Teargassed in Plateau4 Protesters Teargassed in Plateau5
