The Joint Action Committee (JAC) Of National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities SSANU has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education Architect Sonny Echono over the skewed allocation of N23billion earned Academic allowances.

It would be recalled that the Joint Action committee (JAC) of the three Union had embarked on an indefinite strike on 11th September, 2017 over the refusal of the Federal Government to implement the 2009 agreement it signed with the Unions.

National Vice President of SSANU North, Comrade Solomon Alfa while briefing Journalist at the University of Jos during a Rally to protest the Federal Government skewed payment of University earned allowance to the three Union called for the sack for the Permanent Secretary for corruption and appealed to President Buhari to investigate disbursement of the N23billion.

“It has dawned on us that the insincerity and insensitivity of Government through its officials is unabating. Indeed the actions of the officers  in the FME in concert with a group of stakeholders within the system, to surreptitiously allocate allowances to one group of people to the exclusion of the others, smacks of corruption and the Federal Government must not fold its hands and allow it slide”.

According to Comrade Alfa the Federal Government had released twenty three billion Naira(N23bn) for the payment of the second tranche of Earned Allowances covering 2009 to 2012 to both the teaching and non-teaching staff in the Federal University system.

“But to our Consternation and utter dismay, the N23billion has clear been shown to be a payment for the academic staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for their so called Earned Academic Allowances with a skewed allocation of N18.4billion while the three non- teaching staff Unions were allocated a paltry N4.6billion”.

He said the Union reject the allocation done by the Permanent Secretary and will not suspend the strike until the Government addresses all the issues raised.

“We make bold to say that this strike which is not our making, remains our last option, there is no going back, let them continue to threaten  ‘no work, no pay` we are not moved by that Government should also go back to the ILO convention and take note of the rights  of workers to ‘no pay, no work”.

He added that they have waited enough on this matter, and their members have suffered enough, saying the will take nothing short of the 2009 agreements on staff schools as declared by the National industrial Court Judgement.

“We reject any attempt to re-interpret the NIC judgement or implement it in breach”.
