Reps Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Wase expressed sadness over Nation Newspaper report to tarnish his image

The attention of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, has been drawn to a story in the Nation newspaper of February 8, 2021 written by one Kolade Adeyemi alleging non-performance and poor representation.

The story, which is a figment of the reporter’s imagination, is embellished with innuendos, absolute falsehood and simply an attempt to tarnish the hard-earned image of the deputy speaker with the sole aim of bringing him to disrepute.

In the said story, Kolade reported that constituents of the deputy speaker protested against him for alleged “neglect and abandonment”. He also claimed to have spoken with the deputy speaker on phone.

At no time did the deputy speaker speak with the purported reporter on phone neither was there any form of communication between them. We challenge the reporter to produce evidence of his communication with the deputy speaker.

Secondly, there was never any protest against the deputy speaker by his constituents as mischiveously reported by Kolade Adeyemi in the story.

Wase has, in his over 14 years in the hallowed chamber, done excellently well for his constituents, brining about infrastructural developments and repairing roads, building and equipping of schools, hospitals and healthcare centres.

The deputy speaker has also given out scholarship to many of his constituents and beyond, just as he has empowered countless women and youth through skills acquisitions and business grants just to mention a few.

It is, therefore, the height of ignorance to report that the deputy speaker has abandoned his constituents and is initiating and executing projects around the state.

The author of this fabricated story must remember that, as the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Wase is the most senior legislator in the north central geopolitical zone and therefore, treats the entire region as his constituency.

The deputy speaker holds journalists and indeed the media profession in high esteem. But writing outright lies and distorting obvious facts for reason best known to the reporter is unacceptable to him.

He is, therefore, demanding a retraction of this false story and an unreserved apology from the medium.
