Jos — Vice Chancellor of the Plateau State University (PSU), Bokkos, Professor Danjuma Sheni, yesterday resumed office after he was reinstated by the Visitor to the institution, Governor Simon Lalong.

The reinstatement followed an earlier court judgement voiding the professor’s sack.

Lalong’s predecessor, Senator Jonah Jang, had sacked the vice chancellor and replaced him with former Rector of Plateau State Polytechnic, Stephen Mallo.

But a Federal High Court sitting in Jos, on November 6 of that same year, declared as null and void the sack after Professor Sheni challenged the action of the former governor on grounds that his fundamental human rights to fair hearing was not respected. Jang, however, ignored the court order.

Last week, the National Universities Commission (NUC), advised his successor to reinstate Professor Sheni as a remedy to the crisis at the university.

Resuming office amidst cheers from staff and students, some of who carried placards condemning Jang and the former governing board of the university, Sheni said he has forgiven the past.

He promised to correct anomalies at the university.

Lalong had earlier charged Sheni to reposition the university in line with international best practices and to liaise with NUC to fast-track accreditation of programmes and subsequent graduation of final year students.
