As at 11:59 pm (i.e., midnight of yesterday 13th January), no announcements were made about any last minute replacements regarding the existing flag bearers of the PDP, APC and LP. So as it stands GNS Pwajok bears the flag for PDP, with Simon Lalong and Bagudu Hirse hold forte for APC and LP respectively

So as it stands GNS Pwajok bears the flag for PDP, with Simon Lalong and Bagudu Hirse hold forte for APC and LP respectively.

Previously (especially in the last few weeks), there were speculations and counter speculations about the withdrawal of the mandate of Senator GNS Pwajok and a possible replacement by one of the other aspirants. Well, this has not happened. On the 9th January 2015 in Lagos, GNS Pwajok was presented with the party flag at the PDP rally in Lagos –in attendance were Goodluck Jonathan and the party chairman Adamu Muazu, effectively putting an end to speculations of a possible disqualification or replacement.

About Simon Lalong, similar speculations filled the air about a possible deal with aggrieved PDP members –a deal which will see Simon Lalong give up his mandate to one of the aggrieved PDP aspirants (under what opposition interest groups have tagged “giving PDP a hot race”). Again, with the expiration of the deadline yesterday –it is clear that these talks have not come to fruition.

What remains clear at this stage is that the gubernatorial race will be a three pronged race between aforementioned candidates (note: this is ignoring other fringe candidates which are running under lesser known parties like ADC, PDM etc).

And with the new political debates being organised by ViewPointNigeria, PI & MOPPLAH, the race promises to be an exciting one. The debate would be the first of its kind in Plateau –it would border on the topical issues plaguing our state. Critical questions would be asked to aspirants about their specific plans, antecedents, pedigree, manifesto etc in order to give them the opportunity to spell out clearly how they intend to govern –should they get the mandate.

Currently the date of the debate has been fixed at Saturday January 24th 2015 and will be broadcast live on PRTVC and FM 90.5. Cyril Stober of NTA will anchor the event……make it a date!
