PYC leadership condemns the unfortunate attack on the Jos Correctional Centre by unknown gunmen

PLATEAU STATE YOUTH COUNCIL

The attention of the Plateau State Youth Council has been worrisomely drawn to the unfortunate attack on the Jos Correctional Centre, formerly known as the Jos Prisons, reported to have been orchestrated by a large number of gunmen, armed with modern and very sophisticated weapons.

The leadership of the Plateau State Youth Council is deeply startled by how these gunmen and assailants gained access into the city centre and sadly, into the premises of the correctional centre which is well surrounded by the Operation Safe Haven, Police Headquarters, A Division and the Department of State Services (DSS), to carry out such attack which is perceived to be aimed at freeing inmates and destroying facilities of the centre.
While we commend the joint efforts of the officers of the custodial centre with other security agents for swiftly reacting gallantly to the attack which brought the situation under control, we wish to say in clear terms that the incident is an early warning sign which must spur our security agents to live up to expectations without laxity to always avert such attacks before they take place to give citizens hope and confidence.
While awaiting official statement from the appropriate authority on the situation to know the level of damage caused, we wish to in strong terms, condemn in its totality, the dastardly act by unscrupulous elements whose primary aim to always cause unrest to ensure that the efforts of the security agents are thwarted.

Conclusively, we wish to call on the Youths and by extension, all Plateau People to remain calm and law abiding and go about their legitimate businesses with vigilance to ensure that any perceived security threat is reported to the right authorities for prompt actions.
