PYC Chairman Dr. Fabong Jemchang finally bow out of office.
Following weeks of controversies, accusations and counter accusations that rocks the tenure elongation of the Plateau Youth Council (PYC), there seems to be an end to this as today the Chairman of PYC Dr. Fabong Jemchang finally vacates the office and hands over to the Ministry of Youth and Sport.
It will be recalled that the tenure of the PYC Executive was meant to expired on the 22 May, 2020 after serving for 3years as stipulated in the PYC Constitution.
And as expected elections of new officials was supposed to be conducted but due to the coronavirus pandemic that is raveging the world and bringing the world to it knees and all activities across the world to a stand still, and with Plateau State also facing the challenges of this pandemic and in line with the WHO guidelines on the fight against the dreaded COVID-19 which encourage social distancing and avoiding large gathering, the Plateau State Government place a ban on social gathering which also affected the conduct of the PYC election.
While the youths were anxiously waiting, the PYC Executives came up with a letter of a supposed tenure elongation which didn’t go well with a cross section of the Youths and the general public.
This supposed tenure elongation draws alot controversies and seems to be dragging the PYC into chaos that the State Government through the State Ministry of Sport and Youth Development last week came in and intervene by directing the Dr. Fabong lead Executives to vacate the office and handover to the Ministry of Youths and Sport Development, Pending when new elections into the PYC will be conducted.
And today the PYC Chairman Dr. Fabong Jemchang handover at the Ministry of Youths and Sport Development.
In his handover note the Dr. Fabong was quoted as saying “On behalf of the EXCO, Central Working Committee, Chairmen of the 17 LG and the youths of Plateau State, I have the honour to handover the assets/properties of the Youth Council to the Hon. Commissioner of Youths and Sports Development Plateau State.
“I wish to thank all the teaming Youths on the Plateau for the unprecedented support and opportunity to serve you. I also thank the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the Government of Plateau State for their support.
