PSA-USA Labels Plateau Violence a ‘Genocide’ and ‘War of Occupation’ Against Christians

The Plateau State Association USA, Inc. (PSA-USA) has issued a “firm and urgent statement,” condemning the escalating violence in Plateau State and the wider Middle Belt as a coordinated “Christian persecution, genocidal violence, and war of occupation.”

Released on November 19, 2025, the statement asserts that communities in areas including Mangu, Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Kanam are facing organized killings, systematic displacement, farmland seizure, and the deliberate destruction of homes and livelihoods.

Dr. Barth Shepkong, National President of PSA-USA, dismissed the term “communal violence,” stating: “This is not communal violence; it is a sustained and ruthless campaign. What is happening is genocide, driven by targeted Christian persecution and enforced through a war of occupation. Entire communities are being erased with deliberate precision.”

Demand for Action and Accountability

The PSA-USA blames a “dangerous failure of political will” for the persistence of the crisis, calling silence in the face of mass killings “complicity.” The association asserts that any peace built on denial is “both false and unsustainable.”

The PSA-USA has demanded the following immediate actions from the Nigerian government:

  • Prosecution: Investigate, arrest, and prosecute all perpetrators and sponsors without political interference.
  • Humanitarian Aid: Provide urgent humanitarian relief to internally displaced families.
  • Security Reform: Reform the security architecture and establish credible community protection mechanisms.
  • Rebuilding: Rebuild destroyed communities and ensure the safe and dignified return of displaced persons.
  • International Collaboration: Collaborate with the United States and international partners to strengthen justice mechanisms.

The statement concluded with a powerful ultimatum: “We are not appealing for pity. We are demanding justice. We are demanding accountability. We are demanding the restoration of peace and the right of our people to live safely on their ancestral land.”

PSA-USA continues to support internally displaced persons and community rehabilitation across all 17 LGAs of the state through its R64 Diaspora Campaign Fund.
