Protests trail nomination of commissioner in Plateau

It took the intervention of hefty security personnel of the Plateau State House of Assembly, to control what could have been a chaotic protest yesterday at the Plateau State House of Assembly.

The protesters who stormed the premises of the Plateau State House of Assembly complex from Qua’an pan Local Government Council, to protest against Mrs Rufinat Gurumyen’s nomination as commissioner from the Local Government Area, encountered strong resistance from the security personnel at the gate.

The protesters who were at the Assembly premises with placards, had inscriptions and messages challenging the inclusion of Mrs. Rufinat Gurumyen as the Commissioner nominee from the Council, saying ‘we don’t like her because she has not contributed anything to our community.

Earlier at the plenary, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Peter Azi announced the list of the commissioner nominees to the members of the house as follows:

Hitler Dadi, Mangu, Mrs Lynda Hennang Barau, Mikang, Joseph Mairiga Alex, Pankshin, Dr Kuden Kamshak Deyin, Qua an Pan, Mrs Rufinat Gurumyen, Riyom, Hon Danladi Mann, Shendam- Barr Festus Fuanter, Wase, Abdullahi Garba Abbas.
