Professional Golfers Assoc. of Nigeria laud Gov Lalong’s N8 million Gesture

Samson Lawal, the Director of Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGAN) has appreciated the gesture of Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State for improving the Prize money of “Governor’s Cup” from N5 million to N8 million.

This development invariably, has increased the winner’s prize from N500, 000 to N800, 000; in the same vein, all the players who participated were paid appearance fee of N10, 000 each – making everybody a winner.

In this regard, the elated Director (Lawal) said, “Our efforts to ensure that the welfare of PGAN members is improved are beginning to yield fruit and I’m glad it is happening at a time that I’m still in the struggle.”

Against this backdrop the Director added, “PGAN is most grateful to Governor Simon Lalong for his kind gesture; he is a golfer who understands what it means to be a professional. PGAN enjoined other stakeholders to borrow a leaf from him (Lalong) to take golf to the next level in Nigeria.”

Most professionals and amateurs have often complained that lack of funds and sponsorship has been bane of the progress of the sport in Nigeria even as other golf bodies are also grappling with the same problem.
