Prof. Dakas Bags Appointment as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Constitution Review Committee

Prof. Dakas C. J. Dakas SAN has been appointed by the Hon. Mai Mala Buni led Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to serve as a member of the party’s constitution review committee. This was contained in an appointment letter signed by the national secretary of the APC Sen. John J. Akpan Udoedehe PhD.

The letter which was made available on various social media outlets by close confidants and associates of the learned professor on Tuesday 2nd March, 2021 read in part “This appointment is made cognisance to your track record of honesty, hard work, proven integrity and commitment to our party and the nation at large”.

It would be recalled that Prof. Dakas has gained many national and international recognitions and has served in various capacities including the Dean of Faculty of Law University of Jos and Attorney General/Commissioner of Justice Plateau state, among many other leadership responsibilities.

The latest appointment could be described as a continuing series because just few days ago, the emeritus professor was appointed chairman, NBA Legal Education Committee which was described by one of his admirers as “indeed remarkable and exemplary of his leadership skill”.

Prof. Dakas is a frontline politician and a celebrated Plateau citizen who is the Plateau name that rings loud in the recently appointed constitution review committee of the APC. The committee is made up of Prof. Tahir Mamman, OON, SAN as its chairman. Other members are Hon. Akinremi Olaide, Dr. Ego Queena Ezuma, Hon. Mohammed Kumalia, Shuaibu Enejo Aruwa, Barr. Ekokoi Solomon PhD and Barr. Dare Oketadi as secretary.

The committee has a mandate to:

a. Identify all areas of the APC constitution that are desirable of amendment arising from many years of its operation.

b. Analyse memoranda submitted to it, draft specific constitutional amendments arising from submissions. And finally,

c. Within its discretion, consider inputs from various strata of the party for this purpose.
