PRESS STATEMENT

The attention of the Plateau State Government has been drawn to the impulsive, ill-informed reactions which followed comments by His Excellency, Governor Simon Lalong on the state government’s ranching policy.

For the avoidance of doubt, the governor, in the interview from which the mischief came, only called attention to the absence of grazing routes and funcrional grazing reserves because of increase in population and other consequences of development.

Government’s position on this to touchy issue has been tempered by an aggregate of interests that seek the common good. We recall the
series of consultations and stakeholders’ meetings which produced the blue print for the state government’s ranching policy and submit that it conveys the legitimate aspirations of the people.

Government calls on citizens of the state to protect the gains so far recorded in the peace building process in the state and not to fall for the machinations of those who have made a career of destroying the goodwill jointly built by this government and its citizens.
