The golfers’ community in the country was yesterday thrown into mourning following the sudden death of the National President of Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria, LGAN, Mrs. Tima Animashaun. Animashaun who was the former LGAN zonal Vice-President, South West was elected president of the association in December last year. Shortly after her election, she had pledged that the association would synergise with the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) and other bodies to move golf forward.
A reliable source informed Sunday Mirror in Jos yesterday that the president arrived in Jos from Lagos to participate in the ongoing Ladies Golf tournament at the Lamingo Golf club in Plateau State but died in her sleep at a Government Rest House in the state capital, where she was lodged. Participants who had already gathered at the Lamingo Golf club for the two-day tournament expected to end today were devastated when the news of her sudden death filtered into the club. The development prompted the organisers to quickly discontinue the tournament Lady Captain, Lamingo Golf Club, Tina Micah, when contacted was not willing to speak about the matter saying that she was yet to get details of the issue. However, her counterpart at the Rayfield Golf Club, Martha, confirmed the death to our correspondent. She expressed shock at her demise saying she was full of live the previous day
