WOMEN AS LEADERS

Women’s contributions towards a strong and vibrant society are increasingly been well documented with the gradual rise of women into leadership positions.
Over the years, a lot of factors have greatly militated against the rise of women even when they are suppose to be equal partners in nation building. Some of these sadly include:

CULTURE (PATRIARCHY)
RELIGION
LACK OF EDUCATIION
LACK OF FUNDS
LACK OF AWEARNESS

Women throughout the world face many social economic, religious or cultural constraints to leadership empowerment and many are discouraged from engaging in public decision-making processes altogether.
Patriarchal structures continue to exclude women from aspects of leadership life and women often encounter prejudice based on assumptions that women lack ‘masculine’ traits, such as leadership and levelheadedness necessary to succeed in politic, business or in an organization. These practices have over time denied women the platform or opportunity to acquire/develop and in turn display their potentials.

Women leaders invest in themselves and become knowledge seekers.
They are not afraid to ask questions when given a safe platform to express themselves.
Many just want to know that there is legitimacy behind the opportunity, Competitiveness amongst them may really be about looking for validation — an identity that matters and a voice that is heard.  Successful women leaders don’t rely on favors; they earn respect   and truly believe they can influence their own advancement by serving others.  Consummate team players, they also seek to prove their value and self-worth by exceeding performance expectations.

CONCLUSION

Making the important connections between political and economic development of women will contribute to the understanding and current standing of women in decision making level. On the other hand, increasing women’s voice in society will ultimately help sustain a local commitment to health, education and economic development. Empowering women politically will help countries develop key democratic institutions that can then begin to successfully address issues related to security, jobs, human rights, physical well-being and human development.
It is only ideal that whenever policies are been formulated, debated and decided on, interested parties(women, men, young, old, etc) are expected to be active participants.
These conversation shall continue until we attain that level where women’s leadership qualities and values will be highly sort after resource to nation building.

THANK YOU.
