Monday 25th March 2013 – Tragedy struck again in the Northern senatorial zone of Plateau State when unknown assailants attacked and killed a police corporal (Munir Jibril) who was on patrol in Ganawuri village of Riyom Local Government area, following last week’s attack during which 30 people were killed. The police corporal was reported to have been shot at close range by a group of gun wielding assailants who quickly dispersed from the scene.

This attack follows last weeks report by ViewPointNigeria about the clandestine attack by suspected Fulani cattle herders on Atakar village near Ganawuri, which left approximately 30 people dead and several other wounded.

The death of the police corporal was confirmed by the state commissioner of police Mr. Chris Olakpe, who stated that Corporal Jibril was on Patrol with his colleagues at approximately 2pm when their vehicle was attacked by unknown assailants, leading to his death. He confirmed that the corpse of the late officer has already been deposited at the Plateau Specialist hospital for autopsy and that his men were diligently searching the area for the culprits.

He described the incident as truly unfortunate and reiterated the commitment of his command to restoring peace on the Plateau, stating that nothing would deter them from the ultimate task.
