A man of about 30 years was on Friday morning found electrocuted and hanging on a pole in Dadinkowa, Jos South Local Government area of Plateau state.

The victim was believed to be among suspected electricity vandals terrorizing the state.
A witness told journalist that the deceased is a resident of Bukuru, the headquarters of Jos south Local Government Area.

The Area Commander of the Nigeria Police in the region, identified as Mr. Charles, led a team of police officers to evacuate the electrocuted corpse from the pole and eventually deposit the corpse in a mortuary. He said experts will commence investigation to determine the exact cause of death.

Meanwhile, drama ensued when the police and some members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp, NSCDC, fought over the corpse. The civil defense claimed they had jurisdiction over the incident and should, therefore, be allowed to take the corpse for investigation. Residents of the area, however, insisted that they officially alerted the police to evacuate the corpse. It took the intervention of some senior officers of the security agencies before the NSCDC allowed the police to evacuate the dead body.

Speaking on the incident, Toma Davou, the Manager of “Kwali Company”, whose premises the incident occurred, said the deceased could be one of the electricity cables vandals terrorizing the company. Mr. Davou expressed disappointment that the suspect died.
”Unfortunately, he died on the pole wire, he should have been arrested alive to face the wrath of the law,” he said. “Electricity cable vandals have been terrorizing us in the company. They have been causing us damages, because of this challenge; we recently increased the number of our security men to be on the watch all through.”

There have been reported cases of stolen electricity installations in and around Plateau state. Late last year, a private electrician was also electrocuted on an electricity pole in Apata area of Jos North.
