Jos, March 11, 2016 (NAN) The Plateau Government on Friday warned commercial motorcyclists to stay away from Jos-Bukuru metropolis as the ban on their activities in the area was still in force.

The state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Jonathan Ayuba, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos.

NAN reports that the immediate past administration had in May 2012 banned the operations of commercial motorcyclists in the area, citing security concerns.

NAN also recalls that since the advent of the present administration, activities of commercial motorcyclists, who are also known as Okada, had resurfaced on the major streets within Jos.

“As a government, we are determined to ensure that every law is obeyed to the letter.

“The activities of commercial motorcyclists were banned because of security reasons on the one hand and the clearing of the gridlock in Jos metropolis on the other hand.

“ We have seen the merits of this decision, therefore, we cannot say it will be abolished.

“I want to categorically say that the law banning the activities of commercial motorcyclists within Jos-Bukuru metropolis is still in force,’’ Ayuba said.

The commissioner further warned that any motorcyclist caught operating within this area would face the wrath of the law.

He said government would work with security agencies in the state to bring sanity to bear in the metropolis. (NAN)
