Contrary to the position and intention of some national law-makers to snuff life out of Social Media Networks in the country, the Plateau State Government, has rather chosen to work with social media network users to improve the level of governance in the state.
You would recall that there is a bill before the National Assembly that has passed its “second reading” aimed at looking into the operation of social network users in the country with a view to either restricting them or punishing those who offend by either sharing information construed as false or offensive.
Speaking at a breakfast meeting yesterday, organized by the Directorate of Press And Public Affairs, Plateau State with Social Media operators and users, at Eagle valley Royal Hotel in Jos, tagged, “How Far So Far”, the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Nanle, said the Plateau State Government wants to work hand in hand with social media users in the state in order to carry all segments of the state along in information delivery.
He said, “As you can see to today, the online newspapers and social media users have become a critical area for news dissemination. As such government is trying to open a directorate to monitor this new-media challenges in the state. But, we appeal and hope that this new media and our collaboration would be used for the benefit of the masses as the state government is going to engage it.”
Dignitaries present at the occasion included, the Plateau State Commissioner for Information, Mal. Mohammed Nazif, GM PRTVC (represented by Barr. Sunday Gye), Prince Valentine Adese (Publisher REALITY Newspapers) among others.
