News reaching ViewPointNigeria suggests that the Plateau State Government has given out approximately 300 Hyundai caravan vehicles to selected youths in the state, as part of the ‘Poverty Alleviation and Empowerment Scheme’.
At the presentation of car keys held in Jos this week, the commissioner of works, Mr Chris Hassan confirmed that the state Government was working in collaboration with a reputable banking institution to make the vehicles available at highly subsidised rates.
He confirmed that the 300 beneficiaries of the scheme have already been vetted/screened and that they had already worked out stategic ways in which to use the vehicles for transportation purposes, including how they intend to pay back the vehicle capital. This would be the fourth stage of the Plateau youth empowerment and poverty alleviation programme, which has been tagged ‘tackling poverty together’.
The commissioner stated that this was one of the key initiatives of the present administration which seeks to improve the transportation situation in the state, following the ban on motorcyle (okada) transportation which has been undertaken due to security reasons.
