The monthly revenue projection of N1.2 billion in Plateau State is coming true with the functionality of a technology deployed to the state by a consulting firm, the Plateau Internal Revenue Service (PSIRS) has said.

“We are very confident with this solution because we are seeing that the projection of our revenue is exponentially increasing. We are looking at the first three months as a pilot period to see where we intend to be,” Mr. Wulashik Dafa’an, the Director of Public Affairs of the service told journalists in a chat today. “And we are meeting our projection. We now collect between N600,000 to N700,000 on the average.”

Called Smart Revenue System Process (SRSP), the new specialised system which application has eased monitoring and management of revenue in the state, was introduced by a Private/Public Partnership between the state revenue service and a tax expert, Barnksforte Global Limited. The private partner deployed the technology entailing equipment and software, and has proceeded to set up a one-stop-shop service at various locations so that business people pay their taxes in the comfort of their locations.

The partnership projected a tax collection of N1.2 billion monthly, and has already seen what Mr. Dafa’an described as “an impressive realization of our target within the pilot period running for three months.”

He said the tax solution has been tracking and generating, as well as collecting from all revenue sources in both formal and non-formal sectors, and has been generating reports to the state government on its progress for transparency and accountability.

“A lot of revenue is lying fallow in the local governments. We have schools cropping up, filling stations, tailors, motorists, not being harnessed. Service has been concentrating on Jos-North and Jos-South. We intend to diversify our source of revenue,” Mr. Dafa’an said.

He said the partnership entails that Barnksforte Global deployed the tax infrastructure and its service vehicles in all local government areas, and track all revenue sources for collection.

“We are not paying them any money. The solution they have brought is already on ground, tested. It’s running. We have a one-stop-shop in the revenue office and activities are ongoing. This solution is taking care of motor licensing activities. Motorists come in to renew their papers and documents. The solution is full-proof,” he said.
