The Plateau State Government on Friday began feeding pupils in public primary schools with milk as part of its programme to nourish them and enhance their growth.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Patrick Davou, Education Secretary, Jos North Local Government Area, inaugurated the programme at the Township Pilot Science Primary School, Jos.

Davou said 45 public primary schools in the area had been selected to benefit from the gesture which was part of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) programme.

Davou said 45 public primary schools in the area had been selected to benefit from the gesture which was part of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) programme.

Primary school pupils and secondary school students were fed with eggs by the state government during the 2012 egg glut in the state.

Davou said the distribution was to boost the immunity of the pupils and give them energy required for healthy living.

The education secretary warned the schools’ authorities against diversion, adding that the head teachers would be held responsible for any misgivings.

He expressed gratitude to Gov. Jonah Jang of Plateau and the Chairman of SUBEB, Mrs Lyop Mang, for introducing reforms to the education sector.

In her remarks, Mrs Grace Ibrahim, the Zonal Education Officer of Jos North and Bassa local governments, applauded the gesture, adding that it would motivate the pupils to study hard.

Also Speaking, Mrs Mairo Sani, the representative of the head teachers, promised the government that they would ensure fair distribution of the milk.
