Plateau Youths, Insecurity and Moral Standards: Where did we miss it? – By Jamda Bapina

MORALITY.
This is the belief about what is right behavior and what is wrong behavior.
The moral standard of youths in plateau state has gone down, this is one thing that continually shocks me day after day. Even the individuals you think can stand for principle will just fall like a pack of cards.
Many youths in this state go for what interests them, what is convenient for them, what benefits their political affiliation, what they can get out of the situation and they will try to rationalize it.
It is hard to believe that the youths who are supposed to be vanguards of the society will politicize the issue of security, insecurity and peace, when glaringly we see a gradual annihilation and pursuance of anti Plateau people project by whosoever nomenclature you will call them.
We all exist first before we think of anything be it educational, political etc. The many lives that have been lost were not destitutes, and even if they were the Holy Books clearly point that life is sacred, and at such admonished us all not to kill. Many among the dead had plans politically and otherwise, but due to sheer intolerance, irresponsibility and complete negligence they are no more.
As a social critic all I crave for is a society devoid of rancour, hate, ill-feelings and intolerance.
As youths we cannot continue to show indifference to the plight of those vulnerable to attacks, we must look at this issue beyond ethnic, religious, and political affiliations.
Our forefathers who lived happily as brothers with these (today’s) attackers never envisaged that what is happening now will ever happen, the questions now is what actually change?
Government must as a point of duty summon all people involved to a round table where lasting solutions will be arrived at, this must be the real people involved not to call for a round table where they dine and wine with people who claim to represent people involved.
Government should look at ranching, how to ensure killings don’t continue within around ranches, as an options to end this gruesome killings, we the citizens must give them the necessary backing to succeed irrespective of differences in Ideology, politics, religion and ethnicity.
Communities involved must look at the way they relate with which each other and make amends where necessary even before third parties come in to intervened.
In our own little ways we can show differences with our discussion either on social media, in the society by condemning societal ills and making moves to ameliorate the plight of victims in our state.
May God help us to live in peace with each other.
