News reaching ViewPointNigeria indicates that the Peace Boys have been rewarded with huge sums of cash and land properties by the State Governor following the massive feat they achieved in the Nigerian Premier League last season.
Governor Simon Lalong has splashed the sum of 80 million naira and landed properties on Plateau United for emerging Nigeria Professional Football League champions.
The Jos outfit defeated Enugu Rangers 2-0 at the Rwang Pam Stadium on the final matchday of the 2016-17 campaign to secure the club’s first ever top-flight title.
And on Thursday evening – after the team’s trophy parade – the governor announced the cash gift and properties when he hosted the team to a colourful reception at the Government House.
The 40 registered players received 1.5 million naira each, head coach Kennedy Boboye got 2.7 million, with the assistant coaches and backroom staff also getting a share of the largesse.
Having won the league crown, the Peace Boys were rewarded with a Caf Champions League slot and they begin with a preliminary round clash against Cameroon’s Elite One winners Eding Sport in February 2018.
Before then, the holders Plateau United will commence their title defense in 2017-18 Nigeria top-flight season at the Lafia City Stadium against Nasarawa United on January 14.
