Following the expiration of a 48-hour ultimatum, the Joint Union of Plateau State Owned Tertiary Institutions (JUPTI) has officially declared an indefinite strike action across all state-owned campuses. Union leadership, including Chairman Comr. Yohanna S. Igyem and Secretary Comr. John M. Jilang, issued the directive effective from 11:59 pm on April 27, 2026, citing a complete lack of progress in negotiations with the state government.

This sudden shutdown leaves thousands of students in a state of limbo, facing disrupted exam schedules and the looming threat of a prolonged academic session. For many, the news is a heavy blow to their aspirations, turning bustling lecture halls into silent corridors and forcing students to pack their bags while waiting for a resolution that feels frustratingly out of reach.
As the strike remains in place until further notice, the union has called for total compliance from its members to ensure their grievances are taken seriously by the authorities. The standoff now places the burden on the Plateau State government to return to the bargaining table and address the underlying issues to prevent a total collapse of the state’s higher education calendar.
