The Plateau state street sweepers have appealed to the state government to pay them their unpaid six months salaries. One of the street sweepers who spoke to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) under condition of anonymity said that the condition has made them improvised.

She said that they decided to go to the Plateau state secretariat to receive their entitlements. She added that they were surprised when the Government stopped paying them their monthly salary of N8,000 each despite the fact that they were still employed.

Another sweeper who is a widow lamented that the situation has turned her to be seeking for help to fend for her three children as she is currently struggling to feed and cater for her family. She called on the Government to pay them the outstanding salaries and pay them a better package as cost of living is getting higher.

Plateau state Commissioner for Environment, Mr John Dadut while responding stated that the situation arose when the government changed the cash-based payment system it has been using. He said that about six banks have been approached to speed up the current system for effective and prompt payments. He ended by saying that the sweepers have started receiving their pay.
