Tuesday 19th February – The Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. John-Clark Dabwan, narrowly escaped being murdered by unknown gunmen who stormed a Christian retreat he was attending in Jos. It was reliably gathered that the event went into chaos when several gunmen turned up and started looking for the speaker at the event which was organised by the Christian Rural and Urban Development Association of Nigeria, CRUDAN.
A nigerian newpaper, PREMIUM TIMES reported that well armed attackers came searching for the speaker at the CRUDAN building, however, his security details having pre-empted the attack whisked him to safety, averting any trouble. Also reported was the fact that atleast nine people sustained various degrees of injuries as a result of gunshots during the incident.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Nandak Chingle, in a statement to journalists in Jos on Wednesday 20th February, revealed that some persons were injured in the incident, and some personal effects of members of the congregation were stolen.
