The special adviser to the Plateau State Governor on political affairs, Nde Alexander Mwolwus, has explained that it is not the wish of the Jang administration, that caretaker management committees inaugurated a year ago, continue running the seventeen local government councils to this period without elections.
In a media briefing with newsmen in Jos, the adviser, noted that given the Governor’s democratic antecedents and credentials, he merely wanted a smooth and uninterrupted transition at the local government councils, as opposed to manipulating the elections as thought in some quarters.
He averred that the security challenges in the state contributed to the delay encountered in taking necessary electoral steps, and that there was need for the government to step up efforts to restore peace and guarantee the enabling environment for meaningful party politics.
He further stated that the government’s desire to conduct the elections last year, was frustrated by the prolonged strike action embarked upon by local government workers, saying there was no way polls would have been effectively conducted if workers were on strike.

Molwus expressed optimism that, since peace and normalcy has gradually returned and local government strike called off, the State Independent Electoral Commission should soon be in a position to announce a time table for the elections shortly.
